Creating a Cooperative AI Policymaking Platform through Open Source Collaboration

Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) present significant risks and opportunities, requiring improved governance to mitigate societal harms and promote equitable benefits. Current incentive structures and regulatory delays may hinder responsible AI development and deployment, particularly in light of the transformative potential of large language models (LLMs). General

  1. Setting a hard deadline for all research proposals on Saturday, 12/7, 8 pm PT. The soft deadline is this Saturday, 11/30, at 8 pm PT. We will plan to submit our entire research proposal on arXiv on 12/8. If you would like to contribute to this, please see specific instructions for your role below!
  2. NeurIPS '24 is happening this 12/9-12/16! We are planning at least one fun get-together 😄. Please join #neurips24 if you're going, and see you in Vancouver! Hopefully, we will see a lot more of you there next year - we will potentially give out travel grants and sponsorships to all first authors of accepted papers from our group.
  3. @David Bell is now heading our #project-product-architecture team. Please reach out if you're interested in helping plan the entire project at a high level.
  4. Enjoy Thanksgiving! We'll be canceling all lead meetings this Thursday and Friday. Please feel free to reschedule for this Saturday or early next week with us if you need any assistance.

If you're a pretty technical participant and want to get your hands dirty in some math and heavy ML engineering, @Lauren C is looking for committed participants to join #project-scaling-laws@Lauren C is an absolutely wonderful lead, and I'm confident anyone working with her will have an immense amount to learn from her.
